If you like pink dog collars, you can even find one in the Martingale style. The Martingale collar is a collar made popular by the owners of Sighthound dogs such as Greyhounds. Due the size of their heads relative to their necks, these dogs are best fitted for the Martingale collars. The small heads of Sighthounds do little to stop a buckle collar from slipping off their necks and over their heads. Though a choke collar could stop that problem, Martingales are a more humane type of collar. The Martingale collar has a similar feature of the choke collar. It will tighten around a dog's neck if the dog or handler pulls on the leash. While the choke collar continues to narrow, the Martingale collar, however, stops at the point it has been fitted around the dog's neck. So it is snug, but not tight or painful. The piece on the Martingale that tightens the collar is permanently attached to the collar on each end and forms a triangle of sorts. The third and top loop is where the leash is attached. This triangle can be made of the same material as the collar, of chain, or cord. When chain is used, it makes a noise when the collar tightens, which some handlers prefer for the dog.
The Martingale collar is a much more humane collar for training than the choke collar because it is limited to how far it will tighten around the dog's neck or throat. Owners of dog breeds outside of Sighthounds have found the humane quality of this collar a plus and are also using it on their dogs. Either collar, however, should not be left on the dog outside of training or walking due to the danger of accidental strangulation. There are better and safer everyday collars available for dogs.
As for color, there is always a variety of colors to choose from in the Martingale collar, so you can add another pink dog collar to your dog's collar wardrobe. This particular collar on the handsome red Dobermann is made by the Lupine company. The pattern is Dusty Rose, and unfortunately, has been retired by the company. However, Lupine has new patterns in pink, and with a little research, a pink Martingale collar can easily be found for your own dog. If you'd like some suggestions, please visit thepinkdogcollar.com.
